Sofia Richie, Alix Earle, and I Rely on This Cute, Lowkey Hair Accessory to Prep for Big Events

Anyone who has ever grown out their bangs can attest that it’s a frustrating process full of awkward middle parts, cowlicks, and constantly brushing your hair out of your eyes. As someone currently living through the struggle (though my fringe is finally long enough to tuck behind my ears, thankfully), cute hair clips have become my saving grace—specifically the Emi Jay Popstar Clips.   

These adorable clips have become an essential part of my getting ready routine, from keeping my hair out of my face while I do my makeup to setting my freshly-styled hair for a night out. I even reach for them again before bed when it’s time to take off my makeup and do my skincare routine. 

The ultimate ‘It’ girl hair accessory, the Emi Jay Popstar Clips are a GRWM essential for celebrities, too. For instance, Alix Earle, used a Popstar Clip to hold her side-swept, Old Hollywood waves in place while getting ready for the Grammys earlier this year. More recently, Sabrina Carpenter prepped for her set at Coachella with Popstar Clips and a customized Emi Jay Bamboo Paddle Brush, too.

Sold in a set of four, the clips have the nostalgic ‘90s vibe of barrettes, but they’re flat and smooth, so they don’t leave a crease in your hair after you take them out. This is a major selling point for me as I have very straight, fine hair that shows every crease or kink. I also appreciate how the smooth acetate material prevents hairs from getting pulled out when removing them.

The best thing about the Popstar Clips, though, is the variety of fun styles and colors you can choose between, from bejeweled butterflies (which Sofia Richie has worn) to black with sparkly hearts. Right now, I can’t stop wearing the Fairytale version, a white clip with tiny pearls and blue rhinestone flowers. A transparent acetate clip filled with metallic purple hearts and gold confetti, this is the style that Earle wore to set her hair for the Grammys. The glitzy pattern was a perfect fit with Earle’s take on a Hollywood glam look with a deep side part and sweeping waves. Plus, at $26, the Milky Way clips are available at a lower price than many of the other Popstar styles.

Meanwhile, these blush pink rhinestone-adorned clips were among the ones used by Carpenter’s hairstylist, Scott King, to create her signature voluminous curls at Coachella. “I like to use the Popstar Clips by @emijayinc to hold hair back when prepping as well as holding the velcro rollers in Sabrina’s hair,” wrote King on Instagram. “They not only look so cute, but also have a strong grip to keep the curler intact while we are getting her ready.”

The next Popstar Clips I’m adding to my cart? The Amour Rouge style favored by influencer and bouncy blowout queen Matilda Djerf. Cherry red is one of my favorite trends this season and I know these barrettes will be the sweetest finishing touch on all of my summer outfits.
