Taylor Swift Put a 2023 Spin on the Princess Diana Outfit Formula

It was without a doubt the summer of Taylor Swift, but her high-profile romance with NFL player Travis Kelce just cemented the fact that it will also be a Taylor Swift fall. Case in point? All of her transitional weather outfits have gone viral, including a pleated skirt and a baseball cap, and an all-black outfit that makes us think that Reputation (Taylor's Version) is on the way. But her latest look, which she wore in NYC on October 3, is surely to be her most clicked-on yet, considering it's an homage to Princess Diana.

Diana is often credited with creating the perfect fall outfit formula: oversized sweatshirt, tight bike shorts, tube socks, clunky sneakers, and a ladylike bag. It's a look that's been copied again and again thanks to is effortless chicness and the fact it's perfect for in-between weather.

Like the princess, Swift wore tight-fitting black biker shorts that ended at her mid-thigh. Unlike Diana, though, she paired hers with a gray Shania Twain band tee rather than a crewneck sweatshirt.

Swift accessorized the outfit with a small Louis Vuitton monogram purse that dangled off her shoulder. She wore a few gold bracelets on each wrist with matching dangling earrings. She also wore a white baseball cap with the words "Still Here" on it and some classic black sunglasses.

Swift is a stickler for details, so of course she wore the "Princess Diana sock" trend that has found its way to the feet of celebs like Olivia Rodrigo, Gigi Hadid, Emma Chamberlain, and more. The sock trend involves chunky tube socks scrunched down around your shoes—often tennis shoes or Mary Janes.

However, Swift put her own spin on the trend, swapping white tube socks for green socks with frilly details. She finished off the look with a pair of New Balances—just as Princess Di intended.

Her nails also caught our eye. Although short and naturally shaped, they shined bright with a shimmering purple polish. She ditched her signature red lipstick for a more natural makeup look, and all of her hair fell freely out of her hat—bangs and all—with shiny, bouncy, and a whole bunch of waves.
